Tennessee is located in the Southeast portion of the
United States. It was the 16th
state to join the Union in 1796. Framed
on the east by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the west by Memphis and
Elvis’ Graceland and Country Music Capital of Nashville in the center of the
state, Tennessee has diverse offerings.
These include beautiful natural resources and a history rich in
experiences of the likes of Daniel Boone, and Davey Crockett and the Cherokee
Indians.
Chattanooga is the 4th largest city in
Tennessee with a population of just over 500,000. Located on a lazy bend of the Tennessee River, Chattanooga
features natural vistas, experiences and a variety of attractions including the
Tennessee Aquarium, Hunter Museum of American Art, Chickamauga and Chattanooga
National Military Parks (Civil War Point Park), Rock City, Ruby Falls, Ocoee
River Rafting (site of the 1996 Summer Olympics), and many other outdoor
adventures. Hamilton Place Mall offers
over 200 stores with diverse merchandise and products.
About 2˝ hours North of Chattanooga, lies the
beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park full of hiking trails, streams and
native wildlife including black bears.
Just a 3 hour drive Northwest is the home of Country Music –
Nashville! On the way, one can stop and
enjoy a wonderful, free tour of the famed Jack Daniels Distillery. No tasting is allowed as the distillery still
resides in a “dry” county, but fortunately, there is a unique Tennessee law
that permits the sale of special bottles for later consumption! Memphis, the home of “The King”, Elvis
Presley, and Graceland, is in the west end of Tennessee about 6 hours from
Chattanooga.
