Welcome to The Corkscrew Inn Vancouver B&B

The Corkscrew Inn Vancouver B&B is a completely restored heritage home on a quiet street in Kitsilano, one of the earliest residential districts of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This area of Vancouver was forest until after 1909, when the first streetcar line opened on 4th Avenue, two blocks south of us. A building boom occurred in 1910 - 1913, and our neighbourhood retains many of the original homes constructed in that time.

Our house, in the classic frame style, seasoned with Edwardian and Craftsman components, was built in 1912 and substantially re-built 90 years later. The safeguards (sprinklers, smoke alarms, security system) and comforts (in-floor heat, ensuite bathrooms) of modern homes have been discreetly incorporated into the design. In the process, we restored or re-used as much of the original building material as we could, and we're very proud of the result. In April, 2004, we were honoured to receive a Heritage Award from the City of Vancouver.

We hope you'll make yourself at home here. We encourage guests to make full use of the common areas. Don't be concerned that you are intruding on the innkeeper's privacy; we have our own space.

Watch for the corkscrew showcase on your left as you reach the top of the stairs, and don't miss the leaded glass skylight in the upstairs hall. In the armoire you'll find a small refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, tennis rackets and balls and other handy items to borrow if you need them.

The door on the west side of the house leads to our wine cellar-museum. Plan ahead for a candle-lit dinner; lots of nearby restaurants offer carry-out meals.

Your Innkeepers - Karen Craig and Wayne Meadows

Karen - Corkscrew Inn Karen, our General Manager, was born and raised in Saskatchewan. She arrived in Vancouver five years ago and now calls Kitsilano home. She comes to the Inn from a background as a professional baker.

Karen loves to be outdoors and enjoys exploring the local area. Many days she can be found running by Kits Beach or up the Grouse Grind trail. She looks forward to making your stay an enjoyable one.

Wayne Meadows - Corkscrew Inn

Wayne retired from a worldwide sales and marketing business in the high-tech world in 2000. He has been an avid winemaker and collector of corkscrews and wine paraphernalia since the early 1970's. He also collects many other things, including pre-1900 toy guns, Asian padlocks and betel cutters.

Wayne is the author of the definitive reference book - Compendium of Bar Corkscrews.

As of January 2008, Marnie DiGiandomenico, who has managed the Inn for the past two years, is devoting her energy to event planning with the Sauder School of Business at UBC. We - along with our regular guests - will miss Marnie and Giles and wish them all the best in their (soon to be) married life together.
